Cover for Splinters a collection of poems written by Mairi MacInnes Mairi MacInnes's first collection of poems was published in Britain (Splinters: University of Reading, 1953) and two subsequent collections in the States (Herring, Oatmeal, Milk & Salt: Quarterly Review of Literature Poetry Series III, Princeton, NJ, 1982, and The House on the Ridge Road: Boston, Mass: Rowan Tree Press, 1988). Bloodaxe Books of Newcastle-upon-Tyne brought out Elsewhere and Back in 1993 and The Ghostwriter in 1999. The University of Illinois Press published The Pebble in 2000, and the Shoestring Press of Nottingham The Girl I Left Behind Me: Poems of a Lifetime in 2003.



The Pebble poems from Mairi MacInnes Her poems have been published widely in Britain and the USA, particularly in The New Yorker, Hudson Review, Yale Review, The Threepenny Review, The Sewanee Review, The Spectator, New Statesman, and The Times Literary Supplement. Her essays have appeared in The New Yorker, Sewanee Review, PN Review, and other journals and reviews.

She has also published two novels, Admit One (London: Putnam,1956), and The Quondam Wives (Louisiana State University Press, 1993), and Clearances: A Memoir (New York: Pantheon, 2002; Nottingham: Shoestring Press, 2007). A sample of the reviews written are available to read on the Reviews page.

Visions of Censorship  edited anthology together with John McCormick With John McCormick, she edited an anthology, Versions of Censorship (New York: Doubleday Anchor Original, 1962; Chicago: Aldine, 1962) and as Mairi McCormick, with Mark Keller, A Dictionary of Words About Alcohol (New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies, 1968).
